i think...

Ok, I'm the first to admit, I'm crap, crap, crap at scary movies... So when it comes to this time of the year - i try to be a little braver. So this year's scary movie is what I think is a classic. (Is a movie from 1984 to young to be called a classic?)

Update: So I watched the movie...

Past 12AM? Check

Lights down low? Check

Bread knife under the sofa for unsuspected Kruger? Check

Cushions surrounding me like a fort? Check

As I settle down to watch NMOES, I got a sudden rush of the 80s, I felt like a little boy again and instantly was ducking behind the cushions and peering at the TV through my hand telescope - sometimes it's the only way I can watch horror movies...

That was until the first gruesome death on Elm Street, and then I found the whole thing I’m ashamed to say rather funny.

Ok, we've got to give it its dues. It was the 80s, Wes Craven was just breaking out as a director and the cast, well they did their best with the script that they had- however when you compare this film to the slick horrors of the late 90s and now (Scream, I Know What you did ... blah blah blah) You can't help but compare.

However what I will say, my favourite person in the film was Marge - the mother... Now if I had a mother who was that camp and unfiltered I'd want Freddy to get her! Keep swigging dear - Freddy loves a drunk!

I can see why this film as got the status of being one of movies that keeps people up at night, but I think we've (or maybe it's just me) have become a little desensitized by horror, purely because of the horrific films that have made their way into the mainstream. So if I put my virginal mind back to before I saw any scary movies, this film would probably keep me up. Anything that suggests that I won’t have a good night sleep instantly brings me out in the sweats.

However, being the aficionado of movies that I am...

A man with stretchy arms and a really bad sunburn doesn't really do it for me. Someone pass him the Nivea!

you think..

Let me know...

  1. i have seen over like 600 and prolly over 700-750 movies and this one ALWAYS sticks out in my mind when i am in a dark room... LOVE Johnny Depp but when he fell asleep.... ohmygosh! lol still have some nightmares! def. couldn't peel my eyes away though... one of the many movies i dealt with the suspension.... unlike disturbia =] =]

  2. Horror films don't usually bother me i've seen so many and out of all of them this is one that I really remember. I loved it simply because it made me jump and the one, two freddies coming for you was permanently in my brain for days after. So I have to say yes this is a definate classic horror in my opinion shame the follow ups were a load of tosh.

Mind you this film also had Johnny Depp as Nancy's boyfriend in his first movie role just looking so scrumptious and what did they do, painted the bloody ceiling with his blood & guts, still if I had to rate it 9/10.

  3. Which was the one with the waterbed scene... I know that idea scared the crap out of me!

  4. was a classis way back when...the ones that followed weren't as good. you always knew what to expect in the sequels.

  5. What can I say about this, first time I saw it I was with an old boyfriend who had to walk me home after, when I got home my mam was out and I was home alone, but with every light on in the house. Some of the things I remember most about this film was the face coming out of the wall, and the bodybag, that gave me nightmares for weeks, giving me goosebumps now just thinking about it

  6. Bloody brilliant scary movie!!!!

  7. I watched this when I was a kid and it still scares the crap out of me.
